Fee structure — the official payment schedule

Which batch this fee belongs to. BITSoM names a batch by the year it graduates, not the year it joins. Someone joining in 2027 is the Class of 2029, and that fee is not published yet. ₹28,55,000 is the Class of 2028 figure — the most recent one published — and BITSoM states it is subject to change for the next batch.

The fee for the Class of 2028 is ₹28,55,000 for the whole programme, before mess, books and a required laptop. A ₹3,000 application fee is separate. Year 2 falls due two weeks before Term 4 starts.

Only that one total and that due date are published. The Year 1 and Year 2 columns below are our arithmetic: the admission fee and the deposit fall in Year 1, and tuition and accommodation are split evenly across the two. Ask for the instalment schedule in writing before you plan a loan around it.

Fee refund and forfeiture — the dates that cost money

the last date of admission and payment for the Class of 2026-28 is 22 May 2026, and what you get back on withdrawal falls from 100% to nothing across the five weeks either side of it.

This is the part of a ₹28.55 lakh commitment that nobody reads until it is too late. BITSoM publishes it as a dated table, so it can be planned around rather than discovered.

Four things the policy adds, and they all favour reading it early. The ₹20,000 security deposit is fully refunded on withdrawal regardless of which band you fall into, because it sits outside the percentages. No interest is paid on any refund. A refund has to be requested in writing to [email protected] — it is not automatic on withdrawal.

And all refunds are stated to complete within 30 working days from 22 May 2026, so a late-June withdrawal is both the worst band and the slowest to settle.

The practical reading: the expensive line is 21 May to 22 May 2026. Cross it and you move from 90% back to 80% — on the ₹15,12,500 due in Year 1, that step alone is about ₹1.5 lakh. If you are holding a BITSoM offer while waiting on another school's result, that date, not the other school's timeline, is the one to plan against.

Hostel and mess charges

BITSoM bundles accommodation into the payment schedule above rather than billing it as a separate hostel fee the way some CAP-counselled engineering colleges do — it is the ₹1,50,000-per-year, ₹3,00,000-total line already shown in the fee table.

What that buys is a single room. BITSoM’s own brochure states students stay in a fully furnished, single-occupancy hostel room on campus, with access to a cafeteria, library, indoor gym, first aid, wellness centre, an outdoor sports court, doctor on call and paid laundry. The campus is fully residential. That is unusually specific for an Indian B-school fee line, and it is worth weighing against schools that quote a similar figure for shared rooms.

What the figure still does not cover: BITSoM’s payment-schedule document explicitly excludes mess and meal charges, billing them separately, and no meal charge is published anywhere we have read.

Total cost of the two-year programme

adding an estimated Mumbai living cost to the official ₹28.55 lakh fee schedule puts the realistic two-year outlay near ₹31 lakh — but only the fee schedule itself is an official figure; the rest is our estimate.

Financing this entirely through debt means borrowing upwards of ₹28.5 lakh — placing BITSoM in the same fee bracket as the top legacy IIMs and ISB, and worth evaluating on the same ROI terms as those institutes rather than only against other new schools.

Who gets in — eligibility and test scores

BITSoM's own stated prerequisites are a recognised degree in any discipline, one of CAT/GMAT/GMAT Focus/GRE (GRE code 2855), and a holistic profile — there is no published cutoff score.

The brochure asks for a recognised degree in any discipline (final-year students may apply), a CAT, GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE score (GRE code 2855), and a record of academic and extracurricular achievement. Work experience is not required: 12% of a recent cohort were freshers, 29% had 0–2 years, 55% 2–4 years and 4% more than four.

BITSoM publishes no cutoff, but does publish what its admitted class scored.

The batch a year ahead, with every band labelled:

Read the range rather than the median: the CAT band runs from 84.17 to 99.12, so a percentile well below the median has been enough, and one above it has not been sufficient on its own. BITSoM says so directly: “The admission evaluation process for BITS School of Management is not restricted to standardised test scores such as CAT/GMAT/GRE. The process accounts for an applicant’s holistic profile, including academic scores, extracurricular achievements, and demonstrated leadership capabilities. The scores mentioned here are not to be seen as cut-offs, and achieving scores higher than these in no way guarantees admission to the MBA programme.”

The intake is not engineering-only: engineers are 39.8% of the Class of 2028, against an earlier cohort at 47% engineering, 41% commerce and business, 6% science and 6% arts.

Placements — year-on-year

the most recent audited cohort, Class of 2025, shows a ₹21.00 LPA average and a ₹20.52 LPA median — both down from Class of 2024's ₹23.41 LPA average and ₹24.00 LPA median, so the trend is a decline, not a rise.

How many students actually got an offer

the averages above describe the students who were placed — the number that decides whether you are one of them is the placed-against-seeking ratio, and BITSoM publishes it.

Read the denominator. A school can say “138 placed” and let you assume 138 of 153. The audited pool says 8 students opted out and 144 actually sought placement, so the honest rate is 138 of 144. Six students finished the structured process without an offer, and BITSoM's own Dean's message says the school was still working to place them.

That is a materially better disclosure than most Indian B-schools make, and it is the number to compare against other schools — not the average package.

One inconsistency worth naming. The “₹20 lakh and above” line is not measured the same way across years: the 2023 report says 95 students, “69% of the class”, while 2024 says 92 students, “77% of the placed students” and 2025 says 81 students, “59% of the placed students”. A share of the class and a share of the placed are different denominators, so those three percentages are not directly comparable — the student counts (95, 92, 81) are.

Three completed cohorts now exist, and the honest read is a decline, not a rise: the 2024 median of ₹24.00 LPA sat above that year's ₹23.41 LPA average, a sign the batch's core landed premium roles rather than the average being pulled up by outliers, and BITSoM itself noted 77% of the 2024 batch placed at ₹20 LPA or higher.

The 2025 average (₹21.00 LPA) and median (₹20.52 LPA) both fell from 2024, while its highest offer (₹32.50 LPA) was the strongest of the three years. Three data points from a five-year-old institute is not a trend.

BITSoM describes its placements as consulting-heavy; by its own Class of 2025 figures, technology took the largest share. The mix shifts year to year.

Admission process

three stages — online application, a 30–45 minute personal interview, and an offer letter tracked through the portal — and BITSoM now publishes dated Round 1 and Round 2 windows for the 2027-29 intake.

A round is a window, not a stage. BITSoM states this explicitly: each round is “a distinct period in which you may apply, not a succession of steps”, and you may apply once per application year in only one of the two rounds. So the choice of round is a single irreversible decision, not a first attempt with a fallback — and an application is only forwarded for review once your test scores are entered in the form.

Per BITSoM's own admissions brochure, the process runs in three stages:

• Online application: includes long-form written questions that BITSoM says need "time and clear thinking" — this is not a form you fill in one sitting.
• Personal interview: a conversation with senior leaders from the BITSoM network, including BITS Pilani alumni, typically lasting 30–45 minutes. BITSoM states the interviewers "would like to understand the candidate holistically" — consistent with the profile-based, not score-only, evaluation described above.
• Offer letter: application status can be tracked on BITSoM's application portal, and the final decision is communicated by email.

Inside Round 1 there is a second, later track for CAT applicants, which is the part most easily missed: the CAT score submission deadline is 12 January 2027, those interviews run January – February 2027, and results for that track are declared 15 March 2027 — two months after the main Round 1 declaration on 15 January.

If you are applying on a CAT score, your Round 1 calendar is the later one, not the headline one.

One ambiguity worth naming, because it decides whether you get a second attempt. The Round 2 panel says students "can apply in both Round 1 and Round 2 with CAT, GMAT, GMAT Focus, and/or GRE scores", while note 5 lower down the same page says "you may apply once per application year in any one of the two application rounds." Read together, the sensible reading is that the Round 2 line is about which scores both rounds accept and note 5 is the rule on how many times you may apply — one application per year.

Treat note 5 as governing and confirm in writing before assuming two attempts.

Two dates that matter for relocation rather than admission: BITSoM states Term 0 runs online from 21 May 2027, and students are required on campus from 19–20 June 2027. Anyone budgeting Mumbai accommodation should plan from the June date, not the May one.

How BITSoM compares — New IIMs and NMIMS Mumbai

A 95+ percentile CAT score typically puts BITSoM, the newer IIMs (Udaipur, Trichy, Rohtak) and top private colleges like NMIMS Mumbai in the same consideration set.

Choose the New IIMs if government prestige, a lower fee and a growing alumni base matter most to you. Choose NMIMS if a large, established corporate alumni network in Mumbai is the priority. Choose BITSoM if you want a premium academic experience and strong early consulting placements, and are comfortable betting on a young institute without the safety net of a large, tenured alumni base.

Academic model — visiting global faculty

BITSoM's biggest differentiator outside the BITS Pilani parent brand is its faculty model. Its block-teaching format — each course taught over 2 or 4 weeks — lets it bring in hand-picked visiting faculty from, in BITSoM's own words, "some of the best schools across the world, such as Kellogg, LBS, Chicago Booth, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and SMU Singapore." Named examples from BITSoM's own 2025 brochure include Mark Finn (Clinical Professor of Accounting, Kellogg School of Management), Andrew Gershoff (Marketing Department Chair, McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin), Lil Mohan (Adjunct Professor of Marketing, London Business School and University of Chicago Booth), Sandeep Chandukala (Associate Professor of Marketing, Singapore Management University) and Santiago Kraiselburd (Tecnológico de Monterrey).

The trade-off: visiting faculty leave when their module ends, so there is less scope for multi-year mentoring or long-term research than with permanent faculty.

The international immersion is real, optional, and not in the fee. BITSoM’s brochure lists a two-week Immersion Programme with EGADE Business School (Mexico), IE Business School (Madrid), London Business School and ESMT Berlin — taken in Term 4, at the start of Year 2. Two conditions are printed in the brochure’s own footnote and both matter to a budget: it is subject to a minimum number of students opting in, so it is not guaranteed to run, and it is not included in the tuition fee.

Nothing in the ₹28,55,000 schedule covers it. If an international module is part of why you are choosing BITSoM, ask admissions for the current per-student cost before you count it as included.

Location — why the Mumbai Metropolitan Region matters

The campus itself, from BITSoM’s own brochure: 63 acres near Kalyan in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with 80% of the space given to greenery, fully residential, and built to accommodate up to 2,000 students. It was designed by architect Hafeez Contractor and runs a zero-discharge scheme with 100% recycled water, energy-saving lighting and solar power.

Facilities the brochure names include an AI Centre, a Learning Resource Centre (library), digitally equipped classrooms, a startup incubation centre, video and podcast studios, a gymnasium and sports complex, a medical room with a 24-hour ambulance, and a campus-to-city shuttle. The brochure also lists restaurants, a supermarket, a bank branch and a pharmacy as “to be added soon” — so treat those as planned, not present.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region puts recruiters, guest speakers and live corporate projects within reach of the campus rather than a flight away.
