Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai Admission 2026: Cutoff, Fees & Placements

VJTI (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute) is a Government-Aided, Autonomous engineering institute in Matunga, Mumbai, affiliated to the University of Mumbai — a different affiliating university from PICT and COEP, which are both affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. For B.Tech admission, the State CET Cell's own institute summary lists VJTI (institute code 03012) as Government-Aided, Autonomous, Non-Minority, with admissions run through the Maharashtra State Centralised Admission Process (CAP) on MHT-CET merit.

An honest gap, stated rather than guessed: several Maharashtra CAP institutes also carry an All-India seat share filled via JEE Main. The CAP documents held for this page (the Maharashtra-seats cut-off file) do not include a populated All-India cutoff row for VJTI, so this page does not claim that route exists here. B.Tech First Year — CAP-admitted students

Why reserved-category totals are so much lower — and the catch. Tuition and development fees for most reserved categories are marked for reimbursement from the State or Central government under MahaDBT, not waived by VJTI itself. The student pays the full Open fee upfront unless they apply for the freeship/scholarship on the MahaDBT portal within the stipulated window. If a student does not apply, or the government does not approve reimbursement for any reason, VJTI's own notice states the student must pay the difference within three weeks of being informed. Budget for the Open-category figure until a MahaDBT approval is actually in hand.

ACAP / Spot Round — separate, lower-numbered category set

Spot Round admits must submit their family's AY2025-26 income certificate from the Tehsil Office at admission to claim any fee concession, and Scheduled Tribe and Minority students must produce a fresh income certificate every year to keep it.

Second, Third and Final Year — continuing students

Note on Electronics vs Electronics & Telecommunication: VJTI runs these as two separate branches with two separate choice codes and two separate cutoffs (see the CAP cutoff table below). Do not assume they are the same programme or interchange their figures — this is a genuine and easy mistake to make since the names overlap heavily.

Each cell reads "closing merit number · closing percentile". Lower merit number and higher percentile both mean a tighter cutoff.

What four years shows that three would not. Every branch closed tighter (lower merit number, higher percentile) in 2026 than in 2023 — a genuinely consistent multi-year trend, not a single-year blip. Computer Engineering shows the clearest pattern: 99 → 101 → 103 → 71, tightening sharply in the most recent round after three years of gradual loosening. Textile Technology moved the most in absolute percentile terms, from 94.58 in 2023 to 98.30 in 2026 — still the most reachable branch on this list by a wide margin, but no longer the double-digit-percentile gap it once was.

Read the table across a single branch, not down a single year. Comparing Computer Engineering's 2026 close (merit 71) against Textile's 2023 close (merit 13802) tells you nothing useful — they are different branches in different years. Use your own branch's row to judge trend, and treat the most recent column as the most relevant one for calibrating your own preference list.

"Placed" combines two different outcomes. VJTI's own report adds on-campus placement and higher-education admits into one "Total Students Placed" figure per branch (shown above as, for example, "72 + 5 = 77" for Computer). If you specifically want on-campus job placement — not students who chose further study instead — use the first number in each pair, not the combined total. Separately, 105 students institute-wide opted for higher education rather than placement, and a further group per branch (1 in Computer, 3 in Electrical, 2 in EnTc, 2 in Civil, 5 in Mechanical, 1 in Production, 3 in Textile) were ineligible for placement due to CPI below 5.0 or active backlogs.

VJTI does not publish a median — treat average with the usual caution. An average is pulled upward by a handful of large offers; it describes the batch's total, not what a typical graduate received. Two comparable Maharashtra institutes this site covers publish a median: COEP reports a ₹10.50 LPA institute median against a ₹12.50 LPA average for AY2025-26, and VIT Pune publishes six consecutive years of medians. If you are asking VJTI's placement office about outcomes, the median for your specific branch in the most recent completed cycle is the single most useful question to ask.

Mess charges — paid separately, and differently by gender

• Boys: ₹44,000/year, payable to the Institute's JMC account, allowed in two instalments of ₹22,000 each.
• Girls: ₹117/day, paid directly to the mess contractor, one month in advance (₹3,510 + GST = ₹3,685).

This total is built differently from a typical estimate, and that is worth explaining. Most colleges publish only a first-year fee, so a four-year total has to assume the same figure repeats — an assumption, not a fact. VJTI's own AY2026-27 fee notice happens to publish first-year, second-year, third-year and final-year figures separately in the same document set, so the total below sums four genuinely distinct, individually-published annual figures rather than multiplying one year by four.

This total excludes hostel (confirmed for first year / direct second year only, at ₹22,710–₹94,000/year depending on block, plus mess separately), books, a laptop and personal expenses, for which this page has no official VJTI figure and will not invent one. All four annual figures are explicitly marked "applicable only for AY 2026-27 and may change from time to time as per guidelines from the state government" — do not assume they hold flat for a student joining in a later year.

Applied to VJTI specifically: putting VJTI Computer Engineering at preference 1 is a decision, not a wish — if allotted, your counselling ends there regardless of what opens up later. Given the branch closed at merit 71 in 2026 (the tightest of the four years shown), only rank it first if you are genuinely certain, since the seat will auto-freeze immediately.

VJTI, COEP Technological University and PICT Pune are the three Maharashtra CAP institutes candidates most often weigh against each other for computing branches. The table below takes every figure from the same document — the State CET Cell's CAP Round I 2025 cut-off list — where all three appear on the same merit basis.

What the merit numbers say. On the same list and seat pool, VJTI Computer Engineering closed at general merit number 103 — the tightest of the three. In plain terms, a candidate needs to be closer to the very top of the state merit list for VJTI CE than for COEP CSE or PICT CE. Government-Aided fee levels (VJTI) and University-Autonomous fee levels (COEP) both sit well below PICT's Un-Aided fee structure, which is a real trade-off against VJTI/COEP's tighter cutoffs.

Where the axes genuinely diverge. VJTI is the only one of the three affiliated to Mumbai University rather than SPPU — relevant if continuity with a specific university's examination pattern or alumni network matters to you. VJTI's branch list (nine branches including core disciplines) sits between PICT's computing-only five and COEP's full-spectrum offering. Location is the other genuine divergence: VJTI's Mumbai address puts it closer to the city's finance and corporate hub than either Pune institute.

One caution on reading any of this forward: these are 2025 Round I closing values, and CAP closing scores move every year with the applicant pool and seat matrix — VJTI's own 2026 Computer Engineering close (merit 71) already moved meaningfully tighter than its 2025 value shown in this comparison.
