1. MPSTME: What It Is and Where It Stands
MPSTME is the engineering school of SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, established in 2006 as a constituent school (Direct Second Year Admission Handout, Batch 2026, engineering.nmims.edu). NMIMS became a deemed-to-be university recognised by the UGC in 2003, so MPSTME is a private deemed-university school — not an affiliated college under Mumbai University, and not part of any state CAP seat pool.
What the school's own pages confirm:
- All MPSTME programmes are approved by AICTE (engineering.nmims.edu, About MPSTME).
- NMIMS deemed-to-be University is accredited by NAAC with 3.59 CGPA and Grade A+ in the 3rd cycle, Mumbai campus (engineering.nmims.edu, About MPSTME).
- The B.Tech programmes in Information Technology and Electronics & Telecommunication are accredited by NBA since 2014. No other branch is listed as NBA-accredited.
- SVKM's NMIMS is ranked 52 with a score of 52.54 in the University category (NIRF 2025, nirfindia.org). It does not appear in the NIRF 2025 Engineering top 100.
The campus is in Vile Parle (West), near Cooper Hospital in the JVPD Scheme — inside Mumbai's western suburbs rather than an out-of-city township. B.Tech runs four years and the integrated MBA Tech runs five. Mumbai-campus B.Tech specialisations listed for Batch 2026 are Artificial Intelligence, Civil, Computer Engineering, Computer Science & Business Systems, Data Science, Electronics & Telecommunication, Information Technology, Mechanical, Mechatronics, CSE (Cyber Security) and CSE (Data Science).
2. Admission Route: How You Actually Get a Seat
MPSTME does not admit through MHT-CET CAP counselling or JoSAA. Admission runs on the university's own entrance, NMIMS-CET (NCET), and NMIMS allots every seat at its own counselling.
The NCET paper is built on the 10+2 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics curriculum: 30 questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, 20 in Logical Intelligence and 10 in Verbal Reasoning — 120 questions, 120 minutes, 120 marks, no negative marking (NMIMS Admission Handout 2026 for NPAT/NCET/MST/NLAT). A candidate may take one main attempt plus up to two retakes, and the best score goes to the merit list.
Eligibility for B.Tech and MBA Tech is English as a compulsory subject with science or vocational science, and minimum 45% marks in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or the vocational subject. A Diploma in Engineering with at least 45% also qualifies. Maximum age is 25.
The Batch 2026 sequence, from the school's own dates sheet:
- Online registration 28 January to 26 May 2026; exam windows 10 February to 31 May 2026.
- Merit list and counselling call letters in the first week of June 2026.
- Document upload 14-17 June 2026; counselling for all campuses held at the MPSTME Mumbai campus 18-23 June 2026.
- Courses commence 11 July 2026; admission closes 27 July 2026.
Two secondary routes exist, both for vacant seats only. A Non-CET route builds merit from 10+2 PCM marks, with CUET, JEE Main, MH-CET or another state CET qualification given preference at counselling. Direct second-year entry is open to Diploma holders with 60% or more for B.Tech and 75% for MBA Tech.
3. Fee Structure (What Is Officially Published)
NMIMS publishes fees per year, per branch, per campus, and republishes them every cycle. The current handout carries 2025-batch figures and states they are for reference only, with Batch 2026 fees communicated at the time of admission. So the table below is the last officially published number, not the one you will pay.
In one line: Mumbai B.Tech tuition for the 2025 batch ran ₹3,75,000 to ₹5,00,000 per annum depending on branch, with MBA Tech at ₹5,50,000 per annum.
| Programme, Mumbai campus | 2024 batch (per annum) | 2025 batch (per annum) |
|---|---|---|
| B.Tech Computer Engineering | ₹4,25,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech Information Technology | ₹4,25,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech Artificial Intelligence | ₹4,50,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech Data Science | ₹4,50,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech CSE (Cyber Security) | ₹4,50,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech CSE (Data Science) | ₹4,50,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech Computer Science & Business Systems | ₹4,50,000 | ₹5,00,000 |
| B.Tech Electronics & Telecommunication | ₹4,25,000 | ₹4,50,000 |
| B.Tech Mechatronics | ₹3,70,000 | ₹4,50,000 |
| B.Tech Mechanical Engineering | ₹3,70,000 | ₹3,75,000 |
| B.Tech Civil Engineering | ₹3,70,000 | ₹3,75,000 |
| MBA Tech (AI / Computer / Data Science / IT) | ₹5,25,000 | ₹5,50,000 |

2024-batch column: NMIMS Admission Handout 2025 annexure, labelled per annum. 2025-batch column: NMIMS Admission Handout 2026 annexure, labelled per annum.
Two things this table does not tell you. NMIMS does not publish a consolidated four-year total, and we will not create one by multiplying — the per-annum figure is reset for each incoming batch, so a multiplication would be our arithmetic presented as the college's. Hostel, mess, examination and one-time charges sit outside this tuition line. NCET registration for engineering is ₹2,000 for one school and is non-refundable; Non-CET registration is ₹2,000 plus applicable taxes. Refunds after admission follow the UGC notification, with details shared at admission.
4. Cutoff Trends: How to Read Them
NMIMS does not publish a closing NCET score, a closing rank, or a branch-wise cutoff table. There is no counselling-authority PDF to check, because NMIMS is the counselling authority for its own seats. Anything presented elsewhere as an MPSTME cutoff is reconstruction, not a published figure.
| Metric | Mumbai campus, branch-wise |
|---|---|
| Closing NCET score | [FIGURE MISSING — AY2026-27] |
| Closing merit number | [FIGURE MISSING — AY2026-27] |
| Where the official figure lives | Your counselling call letter (ncet.nmims.edu) |
What the official documents do say about how seats move:
- The merit list is built purely on the NCET score — the best score across your main attempt and up to two retakes. Your 12th marks decide eligibility, not rank.
- At counselling, specialisation is given as per merit, choice and availability of specialisation, so your position in the queue decides which branches are still open when your turn comes.
- Counselling for every NMIMS campus happens at the Mumbai campus in one June window, which is why the Mumbai circuit branches close first.
- The Non-CET route runs for vacant seats only, after CET merit candidates are exhausted. Whether it opens at all in a given year is the clearest public signal of demand you will get.
The practical read: the retake structure is the one lever you control. Two extra attempts with the best score counting means a February attempt is a diagnostic, not a verdict. Your actual merit number appears in the counselling call letter, and that is the only place NMIMS states it.
5. Placements: What Is Verifiable
Two official sources exist and they answer different questions.
In one line: NMIMS's own NIRF submission puts the four-year B.Tech median at ₹7,75,000 for the 2024-25 graduating cohort, while the school's Batch 2026 placement report puts average CTC at ₹8.03 LPA and highest CTC at ₹19.75 LPA.
| Graduating year | Graduated in minimum time | Placed | Median salary | Higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-22 | 421 | 234 | ₹6,57,000 | 122 |
| 2022-23 | 385 | 213 | ₹8,50,000 | 104 |
| 2023-24 | 373 | 233 | ₹7,70,000 | 119 |
| 2024-25 | 420 | 356 | ₹7,75,000 | 63 |
Source: NIRF 2025 and NIRF 2026 engineering data submissions by SVKM's NMIMS, UG four-year programmes.
From the MPSTME Engineering Placement Report 2025-26 (Placement Batch 2026): 301 total recruiters, 61 new associations, 33 Fortune 500 companies, average CTC ₹8.03 LPA, highest CTC ₹19.75 LPA. The undergraduate batch is listed as 849, split 686 circuit and 163 core. On distribution, 42% of the batch sat in the ₹6-8 lakh band, 14% in ₹8-10 lakh, 16% in ₹10-15 lakh and 9% above ₹15 lakh.
What is not verifiable: branch-wise median or average for the Mumbai campus — [FIGURE MISSING]. Neither source breaks placement down by branch, and the NIRF engineering submission is filed at university level, so it is not a Mumbai-only figure. The school's homepage separately shows higher headline package numbers with an asterisk and no batch year attached; because they cannot be tied to a graduating cohort, we do not use them. Note the higher-studies column too: in three of the four years above, more than 100 graduates went to further study rather than a job.
6. Hostel & Campus Life
Hostel at the Mumbai campus is optional and not automatic. The official process, from the NMIMS Admission Handout 2026: after you pay the admission fee you apply online through the NMIMS hostel application portal; once the application is approved you receive a request for the hostel fee and pay online. Accommodation at the Mumbai campus is allotted first-come, first-served. Hostel is compulsory at the Indore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Shirpur campuses with local-residence exemptions. Mumbai is not on that list.
| Item | Position |
|---|---|
| Hostel fee per annum, Mumbai campus | [FIGURE MISSING — AY2026-27] |
| Mess fee | [FIGURE MISSING — AY2026-27] |
| Where it is communicated | After the hostel application is approved (NMIMS hostel portal) |
The hostel fee is not published in the admission handout or on the fee pages. Budget for it as an unknown and ask for it in writing before you accept the seat.
On campus, the school's facilities page confirms an air-conditioned library of about 5,646 square feet, specialised laboratories including AR/VR, robotics, AI and BOSCH labs, separate common rooms and gymnasiums for boys and girls, a canteen, an auditorium seating 145 and a seminar hall seating 500. The campus sits in Vile Parle (West) near Cooper Hospital, so students commute on the Western line rather than living in a campus town. International pathways listed by the school include Virginia Tech through the 3+1+1 programme, Stevens Institute of Technology and University at Buffalo.
7. Who Should NOT Choose MPSTME
This section exists because the honest answer is not everyone.
- If your family budget was built around a state-quota fee, stop here. MPSTME is a deemed university: there is no CAP seat, no MHT-CET route to a cheaper number, and 2025-batch published tuition sat between ₹3,75,000 and ₹5,00,000 per year before hostel.
- If you hold an MHT-CET percentile or JEE rank that opens a government or aided college in Mumbai or Pune, the four-year cost gap is large enough that it should be the first thing you compare, not the last.
- If you want deep core engineering — heavy mechanical, structural civil, power systems — read the school's own Batch 2026 split: 163 core students against 686 circuit, with software, AI, IT services and consulting the largest slice of recruiters.
- If you need a published cutoff to plan a backup, MPSTME will frustrate you. Nothing is published, and you learn your merit number only in the counselling call letter.
- If branch change is your plan B, do not assume it. The Batch 2026 Non-CET handout carries both a line that internal or stream transfer will not be entertained and a line that branch transfer will be within the campus after commencement. Get the current rule in writing before you pay.
- If you need a guaranteed hostel bed from day one, Mumbai allotment is first-come, first-served.
8. How MPSTME Compares
The useful comparison is not which college is better but which axis you are optimising.
- Exam route. VJTI Mumbai, SPIT Mumbai, COEP Pune and PICT Pune all sit inside Maharashtra's MHT-CET CAP process, where a state-published category-wise cutoff tells you your odds before you apply. MPSTME sits outside it: one private entrance, up to three attempts, no published cutoff. If you want a timeline you control rather than dependence on a state merit list, that is a genuine argument for MPSTME.
- Cost. This is where the government and aided colleges win decisively. Nothing else in this comparison changes the fact that a CAP seat at COEP Pune or VJTI Mumbai costs a fraction of a private deemed-university year.
- Location and format. MPSTME sits inside Mumbai's western suburbs, as do VJTI Mumbai and SPIT Mumbai, so commute and internship access are broadly comparable. What none of the others offers is the five-year integrated MBA Tech, whose NIRF-submitted median has run above the four-year B.Tech median in every year published.
- Shortlist logic. If your MHT-CET percentile is strong, compare VJTI Mumbai and SPIT Mumbai first, and PICT Pune if you will move city. If it is not, MPSTME becomes a route rather than a fallback, and should be priced as one.
Check affordability before choice filling
Admission route, eligibility and preference order come first. As one decision checkpoint, enter the loan you may need to see the EMI and total interest before locking a college in your counselling choices.
Standard reducing-balance arithmetic on the numbers you enter β your actual rate and moratorium terms depend on the lender. The 40% ceiling is this site's own ROI rule: an EMI above 40% of take-home leaves nothing for rent, food or savings.

Frequently asked questions
Which entrance exam do I need for MPSTME Mumbai B.Tech?
NMIMS-CET (NCET), the university's own entrance. MHT-CET, JEE Main and JoSAA do not lead to a seat here through counselling. The paper covers 10+2 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus logical and verbal sections, with 120 questions in 120 minutes and no negative marking. You may take one main attempt and up to two retakes, and your best score is used.
How many counselling rounds are there, and where is counselling held?
NMIMS runs counselling itself rather than through a state authority. For Batch 2026 it held a single window at the MPSTME Mumbai campus in mid-June for all campuses, after releasing counselling call letters in the first week of June. Indore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh candidates get an earlier round at those campuses. Branch is allotted by merit, your stated choice and seat availability.
What documents should I keep ready for counselling?
Your admit card and a government photo ID at the test centre, then your 10+2 marksheet at counselling. If the final marksheet is not out, NMIMS accepts a DigiLocker or internet copy attested by your principal, replaced by the original once results are declared. Candidates from overseas boards need an AIU equivalence certificate. Keep your ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) ID ready before registering.
How is the hostel allotted at the Mumbai campus?
It is not automatic. After you pay the admission fee you apply online through the NMIMS hostel application portal; when the application is approved you receive a request to pay the hostel fee online. Allotment at the Mumbai campus is first-come, first-served, and hostel is not compulsory there. The hostel fee is not published in advance, so ask for it in writing.
Can I change my branch after the first year?
Treat it as not guaranteed. The Batch 2026 Non-CET handout contains both a line saying internal or stream transfer will not be entertained and a line saying branch transfer will be within the campus after commencement of the programme. Because the published wording conflicts, get the current rule confirmed in writing from the school before you accept a seat you would want to change.
How should I verify the latest MPSTME Mumbai admission route?
Start with the entrance and counselling route published by the institute or competent authority. Then match the current prospectus, application notice and counselling schedule on the official authority or institute website. A route from an older cycle should not be assumed to remain unchanged.
How should I read the MPSTME Mumbai cutoff shown on this page?
Read the exam, year, round, category, quota, branch and closing-rank or percentile label together. A cutoff from another category or an earlier round is not a promise of admission in the current cycle.
How do I confirm the complete fee for MPSTME Mumbai?
Use the current official fee notice and add tuition, development or university charges, deposits, hostel, mess and other compulsory costs. Ask for the payable amount and refund terms in writing before transferring money.
Extended admission FAQs
Do placement figures guarantee an outcome at MPSTME Mumbai?
No. A highest, average, median or placement-rate figure describes a particular batch and methodology. Prefer a completed, dated report with batch size and branch-level context; it cannot guarantee an individual salary or job.
Can anyone guarantee direct admission to MPSTME Mumbai?
No counsellor can override eligibility, merit, counselling or the institute's published process. Use only official portals and receipts, and do not pay an individual who promises a confirmed seat outside the documented route.
Which documents should I prepare for MPSTME Mumbai admission?
Keep the current exam scorecard, identity and nationality proof, Class 10 and 12 records, leaving or transfer certificate, allotment letter and payment receipt. Domicile, category, income, NCL, EWS, migration, gap or NRI documents apply only where the current authority requires them.
What should I compare before placing MPSTME Mumbai in my preference list?
Compare the exact branch or programme, admission probability, total cost, location, accreditation, published outcomes and a realistic fallback option. Never list a college you would be unable or unwilling to join if allotted.
What if a current MPSTME Mumbai figure is still unverified?
Treat it as pending rather than filling the gap with an aggregator estimate. Use the previous completed cycle only as historical context and wait for the competent authority or institute to publish the current figure.
How current is the information on this MPSTME Mumbai page?
The page shows its publication or update date and keeps changing figures tied to an academic year. No page-specific primary source is registered yet, so current figures require direct verification.
How can Future Career Guidance help with MPSTME Mumbai admission?
We help interpret eligibility, compare realistic options, organise documents and build a preference or application plan. We do not guarantee allotment, bypass merit or collect unofficial cash premiums for seats.
Which source takes priority if two MPSTME Mumbai figures conflict?
Use the newest document issued by the competent counselling authority, regulator or institute for the same year, quota and programme. A dated primary document takes priority over an undated webpage, brochure summary or third-party listing.
