Where the ₹1,23,000 and ₹2,00,000 figures come from. Both are tuition plus development only — the component the Fees Regulating Authority approves. Open is ₹1,06,956 + ₹16,044 = ₹1,23,000, and Management / NRI is ₹1,73,914 + ₹26,086 = exactly ₹2,00,000, which is why the fee page prints ₹2,00,000 as a single seat-fee line. The totals above add SPPU, examination, eligibility and refundable caution money on top, so the amount actually demanded in year one is ₹1,35,086 and ₹2,12,586.

PICT publishes annual figures, not a four-year total. The right-hand column below is our own arithmetic on its published annual tuition and development fee, and PICT has not endorsed it.

Three things sit outside that arithmetic. Caution money is ₹5,000 once and refundable, not annual. SPPU, examination and eligibility charges are set by the university rather than the institute, and appear in full in the first-year table above. And a hostel seat is not guaranteed — 212 places for girls and 152 for boys against 780 sanctioned seats — so a year off campus replaces that row with rent.

Fees are approved annually, and PICT's fee page records a pending Review Application to the Fees Regulating Authority, so treat the four-year column as a budgeting figure rather than a quotation. If any of it is loan-funded, run it through the EMI calculator before you commit. Personal expenses, travel, laptop and books are excluded: we have no official source for them.

2026 cutoffs, CAP Round 3

Round 3 is the deepest round PICT has published for 2026, so these are the highest merit numbers a candidate was admitted at this year — Computer Engineering closed at 1,017 on the Maharashtra list and 987 on the All-India list.

Read the percentile column, not the merit column — on percentile all five branches closed harder in 2026 than in either 2024 or 2025, with Computer Engineering at 99.7857034 against 99.7116474 the year before.

Merit number and percentile move differently — use the percentile

Both columns rise across the three years, which looks contradictory until you know what each one counts. The merit number is a position in that year’s ranked list, so it depends on how many people sat the exam; when the candidate pool grows, the same position sits further down a longer list. The percentile already accounts for pool size, which is why it is the only one of the two that can be compared across years.

On percentile the pattern is uniform and there is no branch bucking it: every one of the five closed at its highest of the three years in 2026. Computer Engineering went 99.7548103 in 2024, eased to 99.7116474 in 2025, then tightened to 99.7857034 in 2026. Electronics & Telecommunication Engg, the softest branch throughout, still moved from 99.2422034 to 99.4478951 across the same span. Note that this runs the opposite way to PICT’s institute-level table, which eased in 2025 on every branch — two different doors, and they did not move together.

What that is useful for is calibration rather than prediction. A closing figure records where demand and seat supply happened to meet in one round of one year; it is not a bar the institute sets in advance, and three years is a short series. Use it to see the band PICT has been closing in, then build your preference list with genuine fallback below that band rather than assuming last year’s number will hold.

Why the cutoff series starts at 2024

PICT became an autonomous institute from the 2024-25 cycle. Before that its 2023 status line read simply “Un-Aided”, and its seats were allotted on Home University and Other Than Home University pools rather than the single State Level pool it uses now. There is therefore no 2023 GOPENS figure to place in that table, and inventing one by copying across from another pool would misstate what a candidate actually faced. The 2023 figures, in their own terms, were:

All-India seats are allotted on JEE Main, not MHT-CET, so these merit numbers are from a different list entirely and cannot be compared with the Maharashtra table above.

Your category changes the closing merit number far more than your branch does — Computer Engineering closed at 929 for Open and 7,083 for SC in the same round.

A dash means the State CET Cell published no closing figure for that category and branch in Round I — usually because no candidate from it was allotted a seat there in that round, not because the seat type does not exist. EWS appears only against AI & Data Science and Electronics & Computer Engineering for the same reason.

So GOPENS is a General, Open, State-Level seat and LSCS is a Ladies, Scheduled Caste, State-Level seat. Never compare a row from one pool with a row from another.

Dashboard reconciliation: the three branch figures add to 608 and match the dashboard trend line, but the headline card reads 610. PICT also shows 80.66% without stating what it is a percentage of, so we reproduce it as printed rather than recalculating it against 812. All of these are live counters for a cycle that has not closed, not a final five-programme result.

PICT publishes averages, not a median — and that limits what these figures tell you. Every placement number above is an average or a headline high. An average is pulled upward by a small number of large offers, so it describes the batch's total rather than its middle. Where a median exists it is the better guide, because it is what the middle graduate actually received. Two comparable Pune institutes publish one: COEP reports a ₹10.50 LPA institute median against a ₹12.50 LPA average for AY2025-26, and VIT Pune publishes six consecutive years of medians. That ₹2 lakh gap at COEP is the size of the distortion an average can carry.

We are not publishing a median for PICT because PICT does not publish one, and it cannot be derived — a median cannot be calculated from an average and a highest package. If you are asking PICT about placements, the single most useful question is what the median package was for your branch in the last completed cycle, rather than the institute-wide average.

PICT is an autonomous, unaided engineering institute in Dhankawadi, Pune, affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. For B.Tech it accepts two entrance exams: MHT-CET and JEE Main. The current first-year notice places CAP, institute-level and international-category admissions under the schedule and rules published by the Maharashtra State CET Cell.

How to read the total: Maharashtra CAP, All-India CAP, institute-level other-than-NRI and NRI add to the 780 regular sanctioned seats. The 78 OCI/FN and 39 CIWGC seats are supernumerary and are not added into the 780 figure.

PICT's notice advises students and parents not to approach an outside person or agency for admission and warns that the institute will not be responsible for resulting consequences or financial loss.

Most candidates lose a PICT seat at the round-mechanics stage rather than the merit stage. The rules below are set by the Maharashtra State CET Cell for every CAP institute, PICT included, and they are published in the Information Brochure for Academic Year 2026-27 dated 2 July 2026. They are worth reading before the option form, not after.

The trap, stated plainly: putting PICT Computer Engineering at preference 1 is not a preference, it is a decision. If CAP allots it, the seat auto-freezes and your counselling is over — no Round II, no betterment, regardless of what else might have opened up. That is the correct choice if PICT CE is genuinely where you want to be. It is the wrong choice if you were listing it optimistically while hoping to compare offers later.

The second trap is quieter: forfeiture is automatic and requires no decision from you. Missing the ARC reporting window or failing to complete self-scrutiny releases the seat by default, and in the auto-freeze and freeze cases it removes you from the remaining rounds as well. Diarise the reporting deadline for the round you are in, from the CET Cell schedule, on the day the allotment is published.

Choice filling is where the whole decision gets committed, and it rewards doing the steps in order rather than starting from the branch you want. Work down the sequence below: establish which seat pool you are actually eligible for, then estimate probability against the right historical table, then confirm you can fund the route, and only then decide the order. Each step points at the table on this page that answers it.

Order the list by what you would actually accept, not by prestige. This matters more than it sounds, because of how CAP Round I resolves: if the system allots your first preference, that allotment is auto-freezed and your counselling ends there — no Round II, no betterment. A preference list is therefore a ranked set of commitments, and anything you would hesitate to join should not sit above something you would happily join. The freeze and float rules spell out exactly what each outcome locks you into.

Build the fallback below PICT, not beside it. PICT's five programmes are all computing or electronics, so a list that contains only PICT branches has no real diversification — a weak year across the institute moves every one of your options together. Pair it with at least one institute you would genuinely attend at a materially lower closing percentile, and check that its fee structure works for you before you list it, not after it is allotted. Two mechanical checks before you submit, both of which cost seats every year: confirm the institute code reads 06271 and that the full programme choice code matches the branch you intend, and confirm the seat type you have selected is one you hold valid documents for. An option form is editable until the round's deadline and final after it, so the last useful thing you can do is re-read it once, slowly, the day before the window closes.

Almost every avoidable PICT loss traces back to reading the right number from the wrong table. The figures below are already published on this page; the mistake is pairing them incorrectly. Each row names the specific confusion and the table on this page that settles it.

None of these errors is a scoring problem, which is why they are worth checking twice. A candidate with a valid percentile can still lose a seat by filling the option form against the wrong row, and no counselling service — including ours — can reverse an option form once the round closes.

The three institutes Maharashtra candidates most often weigh against each other are PICT, COEP Technological University and VJTI Mumbai. Comparing them from marketing pages is unreliable, so every figure here comes from a single document — the State CET Cell's own CAP Round I 2025 cut-off list — where all three appear side by side on the same merit basis.

What the merit numbers actually say. On the same list and the same seat pool, VJTI Computer Engineering closed at general merit number 103 and COEP CSE at 243, while PICT Computer Engineering closed at 791. In plain terms, PICT's computing seat was the most reachable of the three in that round — a candidate outside the top few hundred of the state merit list had a realistic path to PICT that they did not have to the other two. That is a genuine argument for putting PICT on the list, not against it.

Where the axes genuinely diverge. The funding status printed beside each name is the single most useful line in the table, because it drives cost: PICT is Un-Aided, while VJTI is Government-Aided and COEP is a state university. We are not printing fee comparisons here — we have verified PICT's fees against its own fee page and have not done the same for the other two, and an unverified fee comparison is worse than none. Check each institute's own fee page before treating cost as a deciding factor. The second real divergence is breadth: PICT lists five programmes and all of them are computing or electronics, so it is a specialist choice, while COEP and VJTI carry full-spectrum engineering including civil. If there is any chance you will want a core branch, that difference matters more than a few decimal places of percentile.

One caution on reading any of this forward: these are 2025 Round I closing values, and CAP closing scores move every year with the applicant pool and the seat matrix. They describe what happened in one round of one cycle, not what will happen in 2026.
