1. DTU: What It Is and Where It Stands
Delhi Technological University began in 1941 as Delhi Polytechnic, affiliated to the University of Delhi in 1952 to start formal degree programmes as Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), and became DTU in July 2009 under Delhi Act 6 of 2009 (dtu.ac.in, university history page). It is a government institution β a non-affiliating, teaching and research university established by the Government of NCT of Delhi β not private and not deemed. β¦became DTU in 2009 under Delhi Act 6 of 2009 (dtu.ac.in, university history page). β¦ The campus later shifted from the historic Kashmere Gate site to a 164-acre campus at Shahbad Daulatpur, Main Bawana Road, Delhi-110042 (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure, DTU profile)., Main Bawana Road, Delhi-110042 (dtu.ac.in history page).
In NIRF 2025, DTU is ranked 30 in the Engineering category (NIRF 2025; the rank is also stated in DTU's own profile in the JAC Delhi 2026 admission brochure). Its sanctioned B.Tech intake is 2,529 seats (AY2023-24, NIRF 2025 submission IR-E-U-0098), spread across 18 B.Tech branches offered through counselling β CSE, CSE (Data Science and Analytics), IT, IT (Cyber Security), Software Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, ECE, Electronics (VLSI Design), Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Environmental, Engineering Physics, Bio-Technology and more (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure). For an applicant, that combination β an 85-year-old government brand, Delhi location and a large intake β is what defines both its appeal and its cutoffs.
2. Admission Route: How You Actually Get a Seat
Every regular B.Tech seat at DTU is allotted on your JEE Main Paper-I rank through Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) Delhi at jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in β a single online counselling shared by five Delhi government-funded institutions (NSUT, DTU, IGDTUW, IIIT-Delhi, DSEU) that together offered 7,765 engineering seats in 2026 (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure). There is no institute-level B.Tech form and no management quota.
The process, per the JAC Delhi 2026 brochure:
- Register and fill choices β registration-cum-counselling fee βΉ1,500 plus transaction charges. In 2026 the windows were May 28βJune 9 and June 26β28; after the second window, registration closed for the entire cycle.
- Eligibility β 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus a pass in English at Class XII (relaxed to 55% for OBC-NCL and Defence, 50% for SC/ST/PD; no relaxation for EWS; no age limit).
- Region quota β 85% of seats are for candidates who passed the qualifying exam from a school inside NCT Delhi; 15% for outside-Delhi. It is decided by where you passed Class XII, not domicile.
- Rounds β four regular online rounds, an upgradation round after Round 4, then a spot round for vacancies. Pay the βΉ95,000 seat acceptance fee online when allotted, and report physically for document verification β miss either and the seat is cancelled.
DTU has also introduced supernumerary seats for female candidates in all B.Tech programmes, phased in from AY2025-26 (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure, DTU profile).
3. Fee Structure (What Is Officially Published)
The counselling authority publishes DTU's year-wise B.Tech fee for the 2026 entry cohort (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure, Chapter 6):
| Year of course | Fee payable | How it is paid |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | βΉ2,69,700 | βΉ95,000 seat acceptance via JAC + βΉ1,74,700 balance at DTU |
| Year 2 | βΉ2,86,700 | At DTU, per its notified schedule |
| Year 3 | βΉ3,06,700 | At DTU |
| Year 4 | βΉ3,22,000 | At DTU |
| Four-year total | βΉ11,85,100 | Our addition of the brochure's own four year-wise figures |
DTU's own fee notification (dated 12.06.2025, for AY2025-26 admissions) shows what sits inside the annual figure: tuition βΉ1,63,000, student welfare fee βΉ22,000, facilities and services βΉ36,000, EWS fund βΉ10,000, examination fee βΉ15,000, medical/mediclaim βΉ700 and a one-time alumni fee of βΉ1,000 β β total βΉ2,47,700 for AY2025-26. The component-wise split for AY2026-27 is [FIGURE MISSING β AY2026-27]; the authoritative first-year figure for the 2026 entry cohort is βΉ2,69,700 (JAC Delhi 2026 Admission Brochure, Chapter 6). The component-wise notice for each new session is published on dtu.ac.in under notices.. The component-wise notice for each new session is published on dtu.ac.in under notices.
Withdrawal during counselling: the βΉ95,000 seat acceptance fee is refunded minus a βΉ1,000 processing charge if you withdraw on or before the last withdrawal date in the counselling schedule (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure). Balance fee not paid on schedule cancels the admission automatically.
4. Cutoff Trends: How to Read Them
These are official closing All India (CRL) ranks from DTU's Round 1 cutoff for 2025 admissions, General category, published by JAC Delhi on 09 June 2025:
| Branch | Delhi region (closing CRL) | Outside Delhi (closing CRL) |
|---|---|---|
| CSE | 6,105 | 2,285 |
| CSE (Data Science & Analytics) | 7,283 | 3,026 |
| IT | 9,456 | 3,847 |
| IT (Cyber Security) | 12,480 | 4,542 |
| Software Engineering | 12,475 | 4,705 |
| Mathematics & Computing | 13,808 | 4,411 |
| ECE | 16,466 | 5,113 |
| Electronics (VLSI Design) | 18,214 | 6,050 |
| Electrical | 25,266 | 7,122 |
| Mechanical | 35,566 | 9,382 |
| Civil | 45,192 | 11,799 |
How to read this: the outside-Delhi column closes roughly three times tighter than the Delhi column because only 15% of seats are in that pool β a rank that gets CSE from a Delhi school gets Electrical from outside. These are Round 1 numbers; closing ranks relax in later rounds, and in 2025 JAC ran rounds beyond four plus a special spot round at DTU in August when vacancies remained (JAC Delhi document archive). Category ranks (EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST) and girl-candidate columns are published in the same official PDFs β always check the round-wise OR-CR documents on jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in rather than a coaching-site summary.
5. Placements: What Is Verifiable
The only audited public placement source for DTU is its own NIRF submission. For the UG four-year programmes (NIRF 2025, DTU submission IR-E-U-0098):
| Graduating year | Graduated on time | Placed | Median salary | Higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-22 | 2,131 | 1,880 | βΉ13,00,000 | 251 |
| 2022-23 | 2,220 | 1,965 | βΉ14,10,000 | 255 |
| 2023-24 | 2,412 | 1,759 | βΉ13,25,000 | 653 |
Read the last row honestly: in 2023-24, placements fell to 1,759 of 2,412 graduates while higher-studies numbers jumped to 653 β the softer tech hiring cycle shows up even here. The median of βΉ13β14 lakh is a median across all branches; it is not a CSE figure and not a promise.
What DTU does not publish on a verifiable public page: branch-wise medians, average and highest packages, and recruiter-wise offer counts β [FIGURE MISSING β AY2025-26]. The branch-wise "average package" numbers circulating on aggregator sites are not traceable to any official DTU document we could open, so we do not reproduce them. If a specific branch's outcome matters to your decision, ask the department during counselling or rely on the NIRF median as the floor of what is provable.
6. Hostel & Campus Life
DTU's Hostel Office published these rates for the 2025-26 intake (Hostel Office circular, July 2025, dtu.ac.in notices):
| Room type | Hostel fee (2 semesters) | Advance mess fee (10 months) |
|---|---|---|
| Single-seater (non-AC) | βΉ60,000 | βΉ34,800 |
| Double-seater (non-AC) | βΉ56,000 | βΉ34,800 |
| Triple-seater (non-AC) | βΉ52,000 | βΉ34,800 |
| Triple-seater (AC) | βΉ72,000 | βΉ34,800 |
Mess is charged at βΉ3,480 per month, paid in advance for ten months. A hosteller therefore adds roughly βΉ86,800ββΉ1,06,800 a year at AY2025-26 rates β our addition of the circular's published figures. That circular is DTU Hostel Office Provisional Allotment List No. I for the B.Tech 2K25 (first-year) batch β ref. F.DTU/HO/2025-26/241, July 2025 β so it is the correct B.Tech reference point; rates for the AY2026-27 B.Tech intake are [FIGURE MISSING β AY2026-27] β confirm on the DTU hostel portal (hostels.dtu.ac.in) at allotment time. β confirm on the DTU hostel portal at allotment time.
Two things applicants routinely miss: hostel allotment is separate from admission (it runs on DTU's hostel portal after you join, with provisional lists and a pay-by deadline, and address-proof verification), and seats are not guaranteed for every first-year. The 164-acre Shahbad Daulatpur campus sits on Main Bawana Road in outer north-west Delhi β students from most of Delhi NCR either take the hostel or budget a serious daily commute.
7. Who Should NOT Choose DTU
An honest fit-check, because a wrong freeze here costs a year:
- Outside-Delhi candidates with mid-range JEE ranks. The 15% outside-Delhi pool closed at CRL 2,285 for CSE in Round 1 of 2025 (JAC official cutoff). If your rank is 15,000β40,000 from outside Delhi, your home-state counselling will usually offer a better branch at a comparable institution.
- Anyone counting on 100% placement. DTU's own NIRF data shows about 73% of the 2023-24 graduating cohort placed. It is a strong outcome for the intake size, but it is not a guarantee, especially outside circuit branches.
- Budget-first families comparing state-university fees. At βΉ2.69β3.22 lakh a year (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure), DTU costs more than several older state government colleges; over four years the gap funds a significant part of a master's.
- Students who want a compact, city-centre campus life. Bawana Road is far from central and south Delhi; without a hostel seat, the commute shapes your entire week.
- Applicants set on a niche branch DTU does not offer β check the 18-branch list in the JAC brochure before building your choice-filling around the name.
8. How DTU Compares
Compared by decision axis, against peers we cover:
- Admission route: DTU is JEE Main plus JAC Delhi counselling. COEP Pune, VJTI Mumbai, PICT Pune and SPIT Mumbai run on MHT-CET through Maharashtra's CAP β a Maharashtra candidate holds both routes, but the exams and calendars are different, so plan both from January, not after results.
- Region advantage: DTU reserves 85% of seats for candidates who finished school in Delhi; Maharashtra's CAP gives home-state candidates their own large quota at COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai. The rational move is to exhaust the geography where you hold the quota before paying the outsider premium anywhere.
- Fees: DTU's published βΉ2.69 lakh first-year (JAC Delhi 2026 brochure) sits above the fee level of older Maharashtra government colleges like COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai, while private-cluster peers like PICT Pune and SPIT Mumbai occupy a different, higher fee band. Match the fee to the outcome you are buying, not the brand alone.
- Brand depth: as the former Delhi College of Engineering running since 1941, DTU's alumni network in Delhi NCR recruiting is generationally deep β closer to what VJTI Mumbai means in Mumbai than to any younger campus.
Within Delhi itself, the same JAC counselling also fills NSUT, IGDTUW and IIIT-Delhi β your choice-filling order across these four is the single highest-leverage decision of the process.
Check affordability before choice filling
Admission route, eligibility and preference order come first. As one decision checkpoint, enter the loan you may need to see the EMI and total interest before locking a college in your counselling choices.
Standard reducing-balance arithmetic on the numbers you enter β your actual rate and moratorium terms depend on the lender. The 40% ceiling is this site's own ROI rule: an EMI above 40% of take-home leaves nothing for rent, food or savings.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a DTU B.Tech seat without a JEE Main rank, through management quota?
No. Every regular B.Tech seat at DTU is allotted on JEE Main Paper-I rank through JAC Delhi's centralised online counselling β there is no management quota, no direct admission and no institute-level B.Tech form. Anyone selling a "confirmed DTU seat" outside jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in is not describing a real route. Separate official modes exist only for foreign nationals and NRIs (DASA/ICCR) and for lateral entry, each with its own published process.
How many counselling rounds does JAC Delhi run, and what if I miss registration?
The JAC Delhi 2026 scheme ran four regular online rounds, an upgradation round after Round 4, and a spot round for remaining vacancies. Registration had two windows β May 28 to June 9, then June 26 to 28, 2026 β and after the second window closed, no registration was accepted for the rest of the cycle. Missing both windows means waiting a full year, so register in the first window even if your rank looks borderline.
What happens at physical reporting, and which documents are verified?
After an allotment you pay the βΉ95,000 seat acceptance fee online, then report physically at the allotted university for document verification β JEE Main record, Class X and XII certificates, and any category or sub-category certificate, which must have been issued on or before your registration date. Paying the fee but skipping physical reporting cancels the admission, leaving only the spot round. The authoritative checklist is published on jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in.
How does hostel allotment work for first-year students at DTU?
Hostel allotment is a separate process on DTU's hostel portal after admission β it does not come automatically with your JAC seat, and a seat is not guaranteed. Lists are provisional: you must deposit the full hostel and mess fee by the notified deadline or the seat moves to the wait-list. Address proof is verified, and signed undertakings β anti-ragging and no motorised vehicle on campus β are required when you take possession.
Can I change my branch after taking admission at DTU?
Two mechanisms exist. During counselling, leave your seat on "float" and you are automatically considered for higher-preference branches in later rounds β freezing is final and cannot be reverted. After classes begin, the JAC brochure states that participating universities may run branch upgradation under their own regulations, so a later change at DTU is possible but never guaranteed. Treat your allotted branch as one you can live with for four years.
How should I verify the latest DTU Delhi admission route?
Start with the entrance and counselling route published by the institute or competent authority. Then match the current prospectus, application notice and counselling schedule on the official authority or institute website. A route from an older cycle should not be assumed to remain unchanged.
How should I read the DTU Delhi cutoff shown on this page?
Read the exam, year, round, category, quota, branch and closing-rank or percentile label together. A cutoff from another category or an earlier round is not a promise of admission in the current cycle.
How do I confirm the complete fee for DTU Delhi?
Use the current official fee notice and add tuition, development or university charges, deposits, hostel, mess and other compulsory costs. Ask for the payable amount and refund terms in writing before transferring money.
Extended admission FAQs
Do placement figures guarantee an outcome at DTU Delhi?
No. A highest, average, median or placement-rate figure describes a particular batch and methodology. Prefer a completed, dated report with batch size and branch-level context; it cannot guarantee an individual salary or job.
Can anyone guarantee direct admission to DTU Delhi?
No counsellor can override eligibility, merit, counselling or the institute's published process. Use only official portals and receipts, and do not pay an individual who promises a confirmed seat outside the documented route.
Which documents should I prepare for DTU Delhi admission?
Keep the current exam scorecard, identity and nationality proof, Class 10 and 12 records, leaving or transfer certificate, allotment letter and payment receipt. Domicile, category, income, NCL, EWS, migration, gap or NRI documents apply only where the current authority requires them.
What should I compare before placing DTU Delhi in my preference list?
Compare the exact branch or programme, admission probability, total cost, location, accreditation, published outcomes and a realistic fallback option. Never list a college you would be unable or unwilling to join if allotted.
What if a current DTU Delhi figure is still unverified?
Treat it as pending rather than filling the gap with an aggregator estimate. Use the previous completed cycle only as historical context and wait for the competent authority or institute to publish the current figure.
How current is the information on this DTU Delhi page?
The page shows its publication or update date and keeps changing figures tied to an academic year. No page-specific primary source is registered yet, so current figures require direct verification.
How can Future Career Guidance help with DTU Delhi admission?
We help interpret eligibility, compare realistic options, organise documents and build a preference or application plan. We do not guarantee allotment, bypass merit or collect unofficial cash premiums for seats.
Which source takes priority if two DTU Delhi figures conflict?
Use the newest document issued by the competent counselling authority, regulator or institute for the same year, quota and programme. A dated primary document takes priority over an undated webpage, brochure summary or third-party listing.
