DTU: what it is and where it stands
DTU is an 85-year-old government institution — the former Delhi College of Engineering — with a large, 18-branch B.Tech intake.
Delhi Technological University began in 1941 as Delhi Polytechnic, affiliated to the University of Delhi in 1952 to start formal degree programmes as Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), and became DTU in July 2009 under Delhi Act 6 of 2009. Admission route: how you actually get a seat
Every regular seat is allotted on JEE Main rank through JAC Delhi — no institute-level form, no management quota.
Every regular B.Tech seat at DTU is allotted on your JEE Main Paper-I rank through Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) Delhi at jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in — a single online counselling shared by five Delhi government-funded institutions (NSUT, DTU, IGDTUW, IIIT-Delhi, DSEU) that together offered 7,765 engineering seats in 2026. There is no institute-level B.Tech form and no management quota.
The process, per the JAC Delhi 2026 brochure:
- Register and fill choices — registration-cum-counselling fee ₹1,500 plus transaction charges. In 2026 the windows were May 28–June 9 and June 26–28; after the second window, registration closed for the entire cycle.
- Eligibility — 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus a pass in English at Class XII (relaxed to 55% for OBC-NCL and Defence, 50% for SC/ST/PD; no relaxation for EWS; no age limit).
- Region quota — 85% of seats are for candidates who passed the qualifying exam from a school inside NCT Delhi; 15% for outside-Delhi. It is decided by where you passed Class XII, not domicile.
- Rounds — four regular online rounds, an upgradation round after Round 4, then a spot round for vacancies. Pay the ₹95,000 seat acceptance fee online when allotted, and report physically for document verification — miss either and the seat is cancelled.
DTU has also introduced supernumerary seats for female candidates in all B.Tech programmes, phased in from AY2025-26.

DTU's own fee notification (dated 12.06.2025, for AY2025-26 admissions) shows what sits inside the annual figure: tuition ₹1,63,000, student welfare fee ₹22,000, facilities and services ₹36,000, EWS fund ₹10,000, examination fee ₹15,000, medical/mediclaim ₹700 and a one-time alumni fee of ₹1,000 — total ₹2,47,700 for AY2025-26. Withdrawal during counselling: the ₹95,000 seat acceptance fee is refunded minus a ₹1,000 processing charge if you withdraw on or before the last withdrawal date in the counselling schedule. Balance fee not paid on schedule cancels the admission automatically.

Round 1 2025 closed CSE at CRL 6,105 for the Delhi-region pool and CRL 2,285 for the outside-Delhi pool — roughly 3x tighter for outsiders.

How to read this: the outside-Delhi column closes roughly three times tighter than the Delhi column because only 15% of seats are in that pool — a rank that gets CSE from a Delhi school gets Electrical from outside. These are Round 1 numbers; closing ranks relax in later rounds, and in 2025 JAC ran rounds beyond four plus a special spot round at DTU in August when vacancies remained. Placements: what is verifiable
DTU's own NIRF filing shows a real dip in placements for the 2023-24 batch even as the median held near ₹13 lakh.

Read the last row honestly: in 2023-24, placements fell to 1,759 of 2,412 graduates while higher-studies numbers jumped to 653 — the softer tech hiring cycle shows up even here. The median of ₹13–14 lakh is a median across all branches; it is not a CSE figure and not a promise.

The same minutes set the AY2026-27 allotment policy: first preference goes to Outside-Delhi Category students, PH-category applicants may be considered under that category, NRI (DASA) students are treated as Outside-Delhi Category (except those with a permanent Delhi address, treated at par with Delhi category), and remaining Delhi-category B.Tech students are prioritised by distance from campus and seat availability. No hostel or mess fee is refunded once paid, except for students who completely withdraw from their programme.
Two things applicants routinely miss: hostel allotment is separate from admission (it runs on DTU's hostel portal after you join, with provisional lists and a pay-by deadline, and address-proof verification), and seats are not guaranteed for every first-year. The 164-acre Shahbad Daulatpur campus sits on Main Bawana Road in outer north-west Delhi — students from most of Delhi NCR either take the hostel or budget a serious daily commute.
