International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) Admission 2026: Cutoff, Fees & Placements

IIIT Hyderabad — formally the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad — was founded in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-private partnership, and is the first IIIT in India set up under that model. It is an autonomous university, not a college affiliated to a parent university, and it is not one of the centrally funded IIITs that admit through JoSAA. Every seat is filled through the institute's own admission portals.

The campus covers 66 acres on Prof. C R Rao Road in Gachibowli — the part of western Hyderabad that also houses the Financial District and most of the city's large technology campuses. The institute's official at-a-glance page lists 2,605 students, 114 faculty members and 29 research centres. Those proportions are the point: this is a deliberately small, computing-focused, research-heavy institution rather than a broad engineering college.

On external standing: NIRF 2025 ranks IIIT Hyderabad 38 in Engineering with a score of 58.45, and the institute's own rankings page lists a QS World University Rankings by Subject band of 601–650 for Computer Science and Information Systems (2025). Its programmes are confined to computer science, electronics and computing-adjacent interdisciplinary areas — there is no mechanical, civil or chemical engineering here, which shapes exactly who this institute is for.

IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in JoSAA, CSAB or any state counselling. All admissions run on its own portal, which lists seven UG channels: JEE (Main) for single-degree B.Tech, UGEE for research dual degrees, plus SPEC, DASA, Olympiad, Boards and lateral-entry (LEEE) channels.

The JEE (Main) channel is the main single-degree route. For 2026 it offered 170 seats — 100 in CSE and 70 in ECE — with 75% in a Common Pool open to all and 25% in a Diversity Pool restricted to female applicants whose JEE (Main) score is in the top 1 percentile. Eligibility requires 60% aggregate or more in Maths, Physics and Chemistry in Class 12. Applications for 2026 ran from 6 April to 19 May; the institute builds a single rank list from your best JEE (Main) 2026 percentile, with ties broken on Maths, then Physics, then Chemistry.

Allotment then runs over multiple rounds. If you are allotted a seat, you accept it by paying a non-refundable ₹10,000 admission fee plus ₹2,50,000 first-semester tuition by the round deadline; applicants without a seat must explicitly opt in to each later round or drop out of the process. You can hold only one IIIT-H seat at a time. UGEE is a separate application for the dual degrees (CSD 35 seats, ECD 25, and four 15-seat interdisciplinary programmes in 2026), with a 3-hour exam and on-campus interviews — the final offer is based solely on interview performance.

IIIT Hyderabad publishes its UG fees on the admissions portal, and the same tuition applies to single-degree and dual-degree programmes. tuition is ₹5,00,000 per year for the 2026 batch, with hostel and mess billed separately by the month.

Two things the published numbers make clear. First, the institute states tuition may be revised annually, so a four-year total is not published — budget for revisions instead of multiplying ₹5,00,000 by four. Second, refunds are date-based: in the 2026 cycle, cancelling before 1 July returned the full ₹2,50,000 semester fee, shrinking to a minimum ₹10,000 refund after 23 July, with ₹1,000 retained as processing charges for non-admitted applicants. For dual-degree students, the institute anticipates fifth-year tuition support for high-performing students through research advisors, research centres or the institute itself.

IIIT Hyderabad does not publish closing ranks or percentiles. The JEE-channel process page carries no previous-year cutoff data at all, and round-wise allotment results are visible only to logged-in applicants on the portal. No official closing percentile for the JEE channel is published, checked again for this rebuild (2026-08-20).

What the mechanics do tell you. First, the rank list is built only from students who actually applied to IIIT Hyderabad — not from all JEE (Main) takers — so where the last seat lands each year depends on who applied, and no NTA percentile converts directly into an IIIT-H closing position. Second, the seat split is 100 CSE and 70 ECE (2026); with demand concentrated in CSE, expect CSE to close earlier in every round. Third, the Diversity Pool changes the arithmetic for eligible candidates: female applicants in the top 1 percentile compete for a reserved 25% of seats. Fourth, only your best JEE (Main) 2026 percentile counts, with ties broken on Maths, then Physics, then Chemistry — so a strong Maths percentile is worth marginally more than the same total scored elsewhere.

Treat any IIIT-H cutoff table you find on aggregator sites as unverified reconstruction — none of it comes from a published official document. The honest approach: if you clear the eligibility bar of 60% aggregate in PCM, apply and let the rounds resolve it. The application fee is small against the value of the seat, and self-rejection is the only guaranteed loss.

The strongest verifiable placement data for IIIT Hyderabad is its own audited NIRF submission. the median salary for the 4-year B.Tech batch graduating in 2023-24 was ₹32,00,000 per annum, with 177 of 188 graduates placed (NIRF 2025, IIIT Hyderabad submission, IR-E-U-0014).

All rows are for the 4-year B.Tech. The 5-year dual-degree stream reports the same order of outcomes: for 2023-24, 35 of 38 graduates placed at a median of ₹30,00,000 (same NIRF submission). A further 11 students of the 2023-24 B.Tech batch went on to higher studies.

Read these medians for what they are: half of all placed graduates earned above ₹32 lakh — a figure far harder to inflate than the marketing-friendly average CTC, because one crore-plus offer cannot drag it up.

What is not published, checked again for this rebuild: the institute's public placements page carries no readable average, highest-package or recruiter-wise statistics as of this capture — the page shows navigation only, no data. A "₹1.28 crore highest package" figure circulates on aggregator sites, but could not be traced to any official IIIT-H document, so this page does not repeat it.

IIIT Hyderabad is a residential 66-acre campus on Prof. C R Rao Road in Gachibowli, the western Hyderabad district that also holds the Financial District and most of the city's major technology offices. For an admission budget, the institute's own fee pages publish hostel charges of approximately ₹6,000 per month and mess charges of approximately ₹5,000 per month, collected semester-wise before each semester begins. That is roughly ₹11,000 a month of published residential cost — but both figures are labelled approximate by the institute, so treat the semester invoice as the final word. Day-to-day life is shaped by the institute's unusual proportions: 2,605 students across all programmes, 114 faculty and 29 active research centres on one compact campus. Undergraduates — particularly dual-degree students, whose Master of Science by Research requires a thesis — work inside these research centres rather than treating research as a final-year formality. The Gachibowli location also matters practically: internships, industry projects and placement interactions happen in the same neighbourhood as the campus, not across a long commute, and the city's metro and airport connectivity make it one of the easier relocations for out-of-state students, who make up the majority of the UG intake per the institute's NIRF submission.

Against the colleges most of our readers shortlist alongside it, IIIT Hyderabad separates cleanly on four axes.

• Cost: COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai are state-aided, with annual tuition at a fraction of IIIT Hyderabad's ₹5,00,000 (AY2026-27). PICT Pune and SPIT Mumbai sit in between as unaided private colleges. On pure affordability, IIIT Hyderabad is the most expensive choice in this set.
• Outcomes: IIIT Hyderabad's NIRF-verified B.Tech median of ₹32,00,000 (2023-24 batch) is in a different band from typical Maharashtra college medians — but compare like with like: read each college's own NIRF submission median, never an aggregator's average CTC claim.
• Admission route: COEP Pune, VJTI Mumbai, PICT Pune and SPIT Mumbai fill most seats through Maharashtra's MHT-CET CAP counselling, while IIIT Hyderabad runs its own portal on JEE (Main) scores plus UGEE. The practical consequence: you can pursue IIIT Hyderabad in parallel with a Maharashtra CAP campaign — provided you track both refund calendars, because both demand money to hold a seat.
• Breadth versus depth: COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai offer many branches and an escape route if your interests shift; IIIT Hyderabad is computing-only but goes deeper into it than any college in this set, with 29 research centres on one campus.

The decision rule that falls out: certain about CS or ECE and able to fund it — IIIT Hyderabad justifies itself on verified medians alone. Budget-first or branch-uncertain — the COEP Pune or VJTI Mumbai path serves you better.
