1. SIMSREE: What It Is and Where It Stands
Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE) was founded in 1983 and sits on B-Road, Churchgate, in south Mumbai (SIMSREE official contact page). Its own MMS page describes the course as a two-year full-time postgraduate degree affiliated to the University of Mumbai since 1983, approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
It behaves as a public institute in practice, not just in description. Two things to know before you build a plan around it. SIMSREE does not appear in the published NIRF 2025 Management ranking list (nirfindia.org, checked for 2023, 2024 and 2025). And a notice on its own home page reads "Cabinet approves SIMSREE into Dr Homi Bhabha State University" — if that transition completes, the awarding university changes, so confirm which university will award your degree before you accept a seat.
2. Admission Route: How You Actually Get In
In one line: for the MMS there is one door, and it belongs to the state — the Maharashtra CET Cell's MBA/MMS Admission Notice No. 1/2026 (AY2026-27, dated 02/07/2026) governs SIMSREE exactly as it governs every other participating institute.

Academic eligibility is identical either way: a bachelor's degree of at least three years from a university recognised by the UGC or the Association of Indian Universities, with at least 50% in aggregate — 45% for reserved-category, Economically Weaker Section and Persons With Disability candidates belonging to Maharashtra only (MAH-MBA/MMS CAP Admission Notice No. 1/2026).
SIMSREE's own full-time admission FAQ puts the MMS at 180 CAP seats, split 153 Maharashtra and 27 All India. There is no group discussion or personal interview in the MMS route — allotment is decided on the CAP merit list alone.
The published AY2026-27 CAP calendar: online registration and document upload 2–12 July 2026; document verification 3–13 July 2026; provisional merit list 15 July 2026; grievances 16–18 July 2026; final merit list 20 July 2026. Option-form filling and allotment dates were to be notified separately. Candidates already registered for MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2026 pay no further registration fee; others pay ₹1,500, or ₹1,300 for reserved-category, PwD, orphan and transgender candidates of Maharashtra.
The other programmes work differently. M.Sc Finance shortlists on aptitude-test scores and then holds a personal interview; MFM and MMM require at least two years of non-clerical work experience plus a telephonic interview.

In one line: SIMSREE publishes a per-year MMS fee on its own programme page, but the page carries no academic-year label — so treat it as the current published figure, not as a confirmed AY2026-27 number.

The point that matters for the money maths: at a published ₹69,000 a year including the library fee, SIMSREE is a low-fee route by Mumbai MBA standards. 4. Cutoffs and Shortlisting: How to Read Them
In one line: SIMSREE's cutoff is not a bar the institute sets — it is whatever CAP merit position the last allotted candidate held when the round closed.
Because there is no GD or PI in the MMS route, nothing else enters the decision. Two separate merit lists matter, and they are not comparable with each other: Maharashtra State candidature competing for 153 seats, and All India candidature competing for 27 (SIMSREE official full-time FAQ). A much shorter All India list behaves quite differently from the state list, so quoting one number for "the SIMSREE cutoff" is meaningless.

Those cells are blank on purpose. The official closing figures appear only in the CAP round allotment and cutoff lists published on the MBA/MMS admission portal at mba2026.mahacet.org.in after each round is allotted. The CET Cell's own Cutoff Explorer page at cetcell.mahacet.org is password-protected and cannot be read publicly. Any "expected SIMSREE cutoff" circulating before those lists appear is a projection, whoever is publishing it — and projections are the reason students fill option forms badly.
What is fixed is the calendar the cutoff emerges from: provisional merit list 15 July 2026, grievance window 16–18 July 2026, final merit list 20 July 2026 (MAH-MBA/MMS CAP Admission Notice No. 1/2026). Your merit number comes first; the cutoff is only known afterwards, from the allotment. Plan your option form against last year's published allotment lists on the CAP portal, not against a forecast.
5. Placements: What Is Verifiable
In one line: the only median SIMSREE has put its name to is in its NIRF data submission — its own placement pages publish an average and a highest, but no median.

Separately, the institute's own Executive Placement Report for the 2023-25 batch states that more than 76 companies participated, with "the average salary offered standing at Rs. 15.10 lakhs per annum" and "the highest salary offered on campus was Rs. 22.50 lakhs per annum". No median is given there, and no percentage placed.
Read the two together carefully. The NIRF median for AY2023-24 (₹14,95,000) and the institute's average for the 2023-25 batch (₹15.10 lakh) are different batches and different measures — they should not be added, averaged or treated as a trend. An average is pulled upward by the ₹22.50 lakh tail; a median is not. When both exist for one batch, the median is the number to plan a loan against.
One honest discrepancy: the institute's summer placement page says "100% placements have become a proud tradition", while its own NIRF 2025 filing records 172 of 177 placed for AY2023-24. For summer internships, the 2024-26 batch page reports a highest domestic stipend of ₹2,00,000 and publishes no average or median.
6. Campus, Hostel and Living Costs
In one line: SIMSREE is a single-building city campus at Churchgate, and hostel accommodation exists but is explicitly not guaranteed.
The institute's address is B-Road, Churchgate, Mumbai 400 020 — confirmed both on its own contact page and in the CET Cell's AY2026-27 CAP notice, which designates the Director of SIMSREE as the reporting authority for J&K and Ladakh migrant candidature. Churchgate places the campus inside south Mumbai's financial district, which is the practical argument for the institute: proximity to the recruiters that dominate its recruiter list, which is heavily weighted to banking, financial services and IT.
On hostel, the official hostel FAQ says accommodation is offered at two locations, Churchgate and Jogeshwari, and that it is not assured for every out-of-state student. Allocation is decided on a combination of entrance score, category, annual family income and hometown.

SIMSREE does not publish hostel or mess charges on its website; the hostel office issues them at allotment. Do not assume a hostel seat when you compare total cost — only 44 of the 372 PG students in the NIRF 2025 submission were from outside Maharashtra, so the institute is not built around a residential cohort.
On accessibility, the NIRF 2025 submission records lifts or ramps in more than 80% of buildings, no provision for walking aids or wheelchairs, and specially designed toilets "Not available".
7. Who Should NOT Choose SIMSREE
This is the section that saves people money, so it is blunt.
If you are shopping for a management or payment seat. There isn't one. The MMS fills through CAP and nothing else, and the institute says so on its own site. Any agent offering a SIMSREE seat outside CAP is selling something that does not exist.
If you have not written a qualifying exam in time. Maharashtra State candidature requires a non-zero MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2026 score. Without it you are competing for 27 All India seats on a CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT or GMAT score — a materially harder route than the 153-seat state list.
If you are banking on a residential campus experience. Hostel is offered at two locations and is not guaranteed, and the institute publishes no hostel fee. Budget for Mumbai rent and assume you may commute.
If you want a senior peer cohort. CAP eligibility carries no work-experience requirement and gives work experience no weight in the merit list. Do not expect the classroom profile of an executive programme.
If your target is the consulting and buy-side roles that IIM A/B/C feed. The recruiter list and the published median point to BFSI and IT generalist roles. That is a good outcome against a low fee — it is not the same market.
If you need a heavy full-time faculty base. The NIRF 2025 submission lists 11 regular faculty against 372 PG students; the institute runs a separate visiting-faculty roster. If close, continuous faculty access matters to you, ask about the teaching mix before you accept.
8. How SIMSREE Compares
Compare on the axis that will actually decide your two years, not on a composite score.
Same route, same city: JBIMS Mumbai. The other government MMS in Mumbai filled through the same MAH-MBA/MMS CAP, on the same merit list, with the same no-GD-no-PI mechanics. If you are writing MAH CET for Mumbai, these two sit in the same option form and the choice is settled by your merit position and by branch and placement fit — not by admission strategy.
Same city, different door: NMIMS Mumbai and K J Somaiya Institute of Management Mumbai. Both run their own admission processes with their own tests or score acceptance, and both sit at a materially higher published fee than SIMSREE's ₹67,000-a-year tuition. The question is whether the fee difference buys you an outcome difference — run it against each institute's own published median, not its average.
Same route, different city: PUMBA Pune and Welingkar Mumbai. Both participate in Maharashtra CAP. PUMBA moves the decision to Pune, which changes living cost and the recruiter mix; Welingkar keeps you in Mumbai at a private fee level with institute-level rounds after CAP.
